About Boulder

The city of Boulder is located along the front range of the Rocky Mountains.  It is home to the University of Colorado - Boulder, the National Center for Atmospheric Sciences (NCAR) and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Earth System Research Laboratory, making it a hotbed for work in the atmospheric sciences.  Additionally, investments by the university, the State of Colorado and local industry have boosted work in the aerospace and unmanned aircraft arenas.  A perfect match for ISARRA!


Weather in July is generally very warm, with average high temperatures around 88 F (31 C).  Because of the dry atmosphere, evenings are generally cooler and pleasant with average low temperatures around 57 F (14 C).  Afternoon thunderstorms occur frequently and can cause localized heavy rain and hail.  The proximity to the mountains means that conditions can change quickly and that on any given day, temperatures can be substantially warmer or colder than the averages listed above.  The record high for July is 104 F (40 C) and the record low 40 F (4 C).  


Boulder is at 5430 ft. (1655 m) elevation.  Visitors should make sure to drink plenty of water and keep the altitude in mind when planning outdoor activities.

Food and Drink

Boulder is home to a wide variety of restaurants and nightspots, several of which are located on and around Pearl Street.  The Boulder Weekly magazine publishes an annual list of some of the city's best which represents a good starting point to find fun local places to eat and drink.  For those who like beer, Colorado is home to many micro-breweries, including many in and around Boulder.

Getting Around

Boulder has a variety of ways to get around town without a car.  In addition to featuring one of the nation's best networks of bicycle paths with over 300 miles of bike-friendly pathways it is also a very walkable city.  Bicycles can be rented at various shops around town, as well as through the B-Cycle bike share program.  In addition, the Regional Transportation District (RTD) operates numerous bus routes, offering coverage throughout the city.
